Be Kind To One Another – #BeKind2013

Be Kind To One Another - #BeKind2013
Be Kind To One Another – you’ve heard this phrase before.  Especially if you’re an Ellen DeGeneres Fan. I watch her show daily, because she’s awesome and hilarious (…like me). At the end of her show she says: Be Kind To One Another. A simple but powerful message.

In 2012, with you all, I watched our country deal with tragedies, over, and over, and over. I don’t need to specify, we ALL know what they are. Horrific senseless tragedies committed in acts of cowardice.  Immediately following, fingers were pointed:  blame guns, the president, depression medications, lack of  mental health care, the government, and conspiracies. Further dividing the people with opposing views on who to blame. Then, there’s the bully epidemic. Kids are bullied non-stop to the point where these children are taking their own lives to avoid their tormentors.
This.Must.Stop.NOW.

It’s time to come together people, WE need to be UNITED, make a change and take a stand against the evil. It’s time to Be Kind To One Another. We need more KINDNESS, more love, more acceptance, and we need SOLUTIONS. No more hating, no more bashing, no more political right and wrong. THE PEOPLE determine the way of the world and it’s time for change.

I’ve been one of the people who snapped at an employee when I couldn’t get my way. I’ve kept my head down at the store because I’ve been too tired to engage in a smile or friendly conversation with a stranger. I’ve looked the other way when I saw a homeless person. We’ve all been too tired, too busy, or just plain too selfish to care about anyone else. When did we get too busy to text someone back? Why are we so Facebook stingy with liking a post someone shares about kindness? Why don’t we share those positive posts with our network? On our profile? Are we really too busy or unwilling to share the word of kindness but we’ll readily share a funny e-card? This attitude needs to change. It’s time to Be Kind To One Another in 2013.

Smile at a stranger, they need you to be kind to them. Say Excuse me. Compliment someone. Help someone. Say Please. Say Thank You. Let someone go ahead of you in line. Buy someone a coffee. Pay for someones bridge toll. Donate a buck to the various charities collecting. Take that minute to dig in your pockets and purses and give a homeless person your change. Write someone a letter. Give someone a hug. Teach your Children to be kind to one another.

It’s NOT hard to be Kind but it requires a change in Attitude. It feels good to do kind things and we need more of those good feelings and less of the bad.
Make the Change.
Be Kind to One Another.
 KINDNESS is Contagious.

I CHALLENGE you, my friends, my family, readers, and strangers: Be Kind to One Another in 2013. If you see a status on Facebook about kindness: Like It, Share It, Comment on It. Share YOUR Stories of kindness. Let them be liked, shared, and commented on.  If you see a Tweet about kindness: Retweet it #BeKind2013. Take pictures of Kindness. Find opportunities to share Kindness. Teach your kids Kindness. Encourage and motivate your friends to accept the #BeKind2013 Challenge and share their stories of kindness

Let’s BE the CHANGE we want to see in the world.

It’s 2013 – Let’s all be a little bit kinder to one another, a little goes a long way. It’s time to start making those changes for the better. Love to all!

Take responsibility for your actions. God has given you free will. You can choose to change. You can choose to set a new standard.” Joel Osteen

Love this post! I totally agree! Why can’t we just be nice? Even when I can’t stand what someone posts or whatever, I still try to be nice or just keep my mouth shut.

Great challenge! You never know- smiling at or speaking to the stranger in a store may convince them people DO care and life is worth living. I know I need to make more of an effort to get to know people and not be self-centered. Thank you!

  25. Love this post, such an inspiration! I think that even just a little kindness from everyone could totally change the world. It takes more effort to be mean than to be kind!

I totally agree (on the you being funny like Ellen) okay jokes aside, that this needs to STOP!My son has been bullied and I always tell him that you never know what their life is like at home, in public, etc and to just be nice. It’s hard for someone to be rude to someone who is nice and it may just make their day(:Thank you for putting this out there for us adults too because there is a lot of bullying that goes on, on the internet too.I am off to share this!

  31. I thank you for this lovely post! It’s so easy to get caught up in all the negative things going on in life and in this world. But it’s amazing what happens when we just take the time to simply smile. A kind nod, a compassionate look can move mountains! Beautiful thoughts!

Wonderful post Katherine! The world sure has changed since I was younger. People are so busy, busy yet we rely so much on technology that makes our lives easier. Instead of having more time (like we should) we have less time. And people nowadays are so unfriendly, so focused on self entitlement it’s sickening. I still walk into a store with a smile on my face, greeting people with my smile as they approach but in most cases the smile is not returned. So sad!The world would be SO much better if people would just be kind and think of others. We all are going through some kind of unwanted situation in one way or another. So lets put ourselves in others’ shoes and care, help and flash a smile. You just might brighten someones day — for free!

I JUST pinned a quote about being kind on Pinterest. “If you can’t be kind, be quiet”. I have no idea where peoples manners have disappeared to, but my mother raised me that if I didn’t have anything nice to say I shouldn’t say anything at all… You treat people the way you would like to be treated and kindness is NEVER wasted. thanks for sharing!

Great challenge its not that difficult to say something nice vs ugly put a smile on your face and be that person!

  50. I was always taught if you have nothing good to say..don’t speak. Just repeating what everyone here is saying, lovely post! There is a spirit of charity and giving that seems to spread during Christmas and the holidays, perhaps we could just keep that all year round?
